LINK Mediation Service - A small gift to mark the season

Cleo Lewis, Young Person's Single Assessment Worker, supports homeless young people from 16-17. Most are placed in Hammersmith & Fulham's Young People's Assessment Centre for 6 weeks. Their needs are assessed by a key worker, and Cleo finds them appropriate supported accommodation to move in to.

Most of these young people have been excluded from their family home and have left home with little more than their clothes. They do not have the essentials that they need for independent living, nor the money to invest in things like kitchen starter packs and bedding.

Here is what you can do:

Help us by donating:

  • £5 buys a kettle
  • £10 buys a crockery set
  • £15 buys a duvet
  • £30 buys pots, pans and toaster

And here is why:

Sharon's Story

Sharon was referred to LINK Mediation two years ago when she was 17. She was living with her Grandmother and Aunt, and home life was very difficult. She ended up living in bed and breakfast accommodation with no one to turn to. She was referred to the Young Person’s Assessment Centre, where for 6 weeks the LINK Mediation team worked with her to move her life forward. She had no passport, birth certificate or papers needed to live independently. Their intervention was a turning point, and talking to Cleo and Lara, she could see what options were open to her. They helped her to replace her missing papers and look for somewhere permanent to move to where support would be available. They guided her through the process of applying for housing benefit and talked through the need to budget and manage her own money. She now has her own flat and is studying to be a fashion stylist.

Sharon says that without the help of LINK, she is not sure what would have happened. Her advice to other young people who are struggling: “Don’t give up – you can get through it.

West London YMCA helps young people build a future.
