Connexions Sexual Health Worker

Support to teenage mothers who are not currently working or training, to improve their overall long-term opportunities. One of the aims is to work with local young people on teenage pregnancy prevention by delivering advice sessions and peer education.

  • See yourself Beautiful: Tackles the issues young women face daily in their lives. Over 6 weeks young women learn to raise their aspirations, to increase self esteem, to built self confidence and to ultimately be inspired to live a life that's great! Currently the course is being run from Brookside community centre and the Hayes YMCA Young Peopl's Centre with a view to expand into other locations as and where the need exists. If you have any suggestions please do let us know.

  • Clinic in the box, Drop - in: Every Monday 4-6 pm. This pilot project run in association with the PCT and Healthy Hillingdon, aims to reduce the rates of teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, unintended conceptions and to lower the rates of termination of pregnancy. Young people receive confidential advice on any concerns around sexual health. This includes information on STI's, preganancy, relationship advice and more. There's also pregnancy testing, chlamydia testing, contraception, and condoms provided by clinically trained nurse as well.

  • Tripl P Parenting for Young Mums: Developed by Triple P International for use with groups of parents, and at young mums under the age of 26 at the Tumbler. There is good evidence from research that children benefit throughout their lives by having had a positive experience of being parented. However, it is up to every parent in their own family situation, with their own uniquely individual children, to find solutions and ways of working that are right for them. The course aims to:
  1. Increase the self-esteem of parents and children
  2. Help parents find alternatives to physical punishment
  3. Offer parents the opportunity to practise skills which have been shown to lead to better parenting
  4. Provide a safe place in which parents can freely discuss their concerns about parenting
  • Young mums and mums2be group: Every Thursday 11-1pm. What's on offer? The chance to meet, chat and laugh with other young mums. A safe play area for your 0-5 year old children to roam around. A free lunch is provided for mothers and children along with an endless supply of tea, coffee & soft drinks. Lots of training opportunities with crèche facilities are provided.

  • One 2 One Support: Issues around sex, relationships, self-esteem, sexual health... STI's contraception, preagnancy and being a young mum. If you are aged between 13-19 and need advice, support or have any concerns on any of the above, a free and confidential service can be provided for you. These sessions can be held in schools, young people's centres or even a café!

  • Services offered to organisations working with young people: Workshops around sexual health, self-esteem, teenage parenting and more are taught in an informal and participatory way. Young people are encouraged to think for themselves and take responsibility and ownership of their life choices. Peer Education and Mentoring Scheme education sessions take young people through a journey of teenage parenting. Mentoring Services for young women that are at risk of becoming pregnant or surrounding issues.
